Know your profit before you sell.

Use practical calculators to compare pricing choices and estimate return expenses. Your numbers stay in your browser. All currency amounts are in USD.

What results mean: These are decision estimates, not accounting profit or current marketplace fee quotes. Add applicable costs and use your actual fees. Currency is USD. US sales tax: Do not include tax collected from customers and remitted to a tax authority as a seller expense. Enter only charges you actually bear; rates apply to selling price excluding customer sales tax.
CALCULATOR 01

Bundle profit calculator

Should you sell two items separately or ship them as one bundle? Compare two separate sales against one bundle containing one unit of each item.

Estimated bundle contribution—

Formula and assumptions

Bundle contribution = bundle price − both item costs − percentage fees on bundle revenue − one fixed order fee − bundle shipping − extra packaging. Separate contribution = total regular prices − both item costs − percentage fees on separate sales − two fixed fees − shipping for two orders. Assumes both items are purchased either together or in two individual orders; excludes costs not entered, refunds and income taxes on profit.

CALCULATOR 02

Quantity discount calculator

Compare one discounted multi-unit order with selling the same quantity in separate full-price orders. This avoids a misleading comparison of different quantities.

Estimated discounted order contribution—

Formula and assumptions

Bulk contribution = (quantity × discounted unit price) × (1 − percentage charges) − quantity × unit cost − bulk shipping − one fixed fee. Separate contribution = quantity × [(regular unit price × (1 − percentage charges)) − unit cost − single shipping − one fixed fee]. The break-even discounted unit price uses the same bulk order cost structure. Maximum discount is a zero-contribution threshold, not a recommended discount. Fees and taxes are simplified revenue-based percentages and must be entered only if applicable.

CALCULATOR 03

Ecommerce return cost calculator

Estimate the extra operational expenses and inventory write-offs created by returns. This is not the total financial impact of refunds or lost sales.

Estimated monthly operating return costs—

This excludes refunded sale revenue, lost contribution margin, and adjustments to fees already recovered. Do not add inventory write-offs a second time if your accounting model already includes them.

Formula and assumptions

Expected returns = orders × return rate. Expected cost per return = reverse shipping + inspection labor + nonrecoverable expenses + processing charge + item purchase cost × unsellable rate. Monthly additional operating cost = expected returns × cost per return. Assumes each order has one relevant returned item; mixed multi-item orders require a separate model. For this estimate, salvage value is treated as zero on unsellable items.

Ecommerce pricing questions, answered.

What is contribution margin?

Contribution is revenue minus the variable costs you enter. Divide contribution by selling revenue and multiply by 100 to get its percentage margin. It does not include unentered overhead, advertising, subscriptions or income taxes.

Is a bundle discount always more profitable?

No. Shipping and fixed-fee savings must outweigh the revenue lost to the discount and any extra packaging. Compare the same items in both scenarios. For the bundle example here, separate sales contribute $13.50 while the bundle contributes $11.10.

How much can I discount a bulk order?

The zero-contribution discount limit is where entered order revenue exactly covers entered costs. A lower limit than zero means even the regular price is below break-even. It is a threshold, not a recommendation: leave room for overhead and your desired profit.

Does the returns calculator include refunded sales?

No. It estimates additional shipping, processing and inventory loss for one returned item per order. Refunded revenue and lost contribution need separate analysis. Annual cost assumes the same monthly activity for twelve months.
